Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe is a storybook 19th-century town wrapped in the mountains of the Lehigh Gorge, once so admired it was nicknamed the "Switzerland of America." Its walkable downtown is full of preserved Victorian architecture, independent shops, galleries, and cafes.
The town is also the gateway to the outdoors: the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway runs excursion trains through the gorge, and the surrounding state park is a favorite for whitewater rafting, mountain biking the rail-trail, and hiking to overlooks — with the fall foliage drawing crowds every autumn.
It's a scenic drive from our Poconos cabins, and it makes an easy day trip that pairs small-town charm with time on the river or the trail.
