Lion Country Safari

Lion Country Safari, west of West Palm Beach in Loxahatchee, was the country's first drive-through safari — and it's still one of the best. You wind through miles of open habitats in your own car while more than 1,000 animals, from lions and rhinos to zebras, giraffes, and ostriches, roam around you.

Once you've completed the drive, the walk-through Safari World park adds a petting zoo, a giraffe feeding platform, a water sprayground, boat and carousel rides, and animal feedings and talks throughout the day.

It's a short drive from Tranquility Palms and an easy half-day the whole family remembers — keep the windows up through the big-cat sections and let the kids spot animals as you go.
